Laurel Lie provides lots of space to spread out and relax, breathe in the fresh mountain air and enjoy the gorgeous mountain views. Hiking trails and creeks are right outside the backdoor, and you’re just minutes from wonderful shopping, restaurants, and much more! We hope you love this home as much as we do!

Shenandoah Terrace deadends into Laurel Lie’s driveway. Laurel Lie shares a driveway with 97 Shenandoah. Signs for both 99 and 97 can be seen at the top of the driveway. Please DO NOT park in either of the 2 parking bumpers closest to the neighbor. You are welcome to park more cars in the cul-de-sac at the top of the driveway.

Both the main and downstairs doors are equipped with smart locks which can be unlocked with a code. An access code unique to you will be sent by The Traylor Team prior to check-in. Your code can unlock both of these doors. Please note, there is a keybox attached to the wall to the left of the main door. This is NOT the smart lock. The smart lock is located on the actual door.
To unlock the door: enter your code and then press the ‘Ultraloq’ button.
To lock the door: simply press the ‘Ultraloq’ button (no need to enter your code).
Please note, after the door has been closed for 5 minutes it will automatically lock.

Only the guests quoted on the stay will be permitted to enter the home. If you wish to have additional guests, who were not previously quoted, you need permission and there may be an extra guest fee. Please contact us for more details.

Good Neighbors
Laurel Lie’s neighbor is a long-term resident. Help us be a good neighbor! Please be mindful and courteous by following all house rules, as well as all local and state laws and by observing quiet hours from 10pm - 7am.
Shoes
The owners live European style, therefore, they ask that you remove your shoes when you come in and leave them by the door.
Trash and Bears (oh my!)
PLEASE DO NOT PUT ANY TRASH OR LEAVE FOOD OUTSIDE. One of the many wonderful things about Laurel Lie is that it’s surrounded by nature and all sorts of wildlife that love to rummage in the trash…or even the screened-in porch (true story, a bear once came onto the screened-in porch because of pancake syrup on the rug!) Please be careful with food on the screened in porch and clean up after yourselves well! Please do NOT set trash outside. There is a large blue trash can in the kitchen closet for your bagged overflow trash, as well as, another large trash can with lid in the laundry room downstairs for OVERFLOW trash. DO NOT put trash outside or in owner’s storage under the screened in porch. Bears WILL try to get to it!
The town of Montreat collects trash on Mondays. Please set trash at the top of the driveway on Monday MORNING (NOT the night before or later in the day on Monday). If you set it out, please bring the can back in after it has been emptied.
Regarding bears, it’s unlikely they will bother you. They’re more interested in food and scraps than you. Don’t be fearful, just be careful!
TVs, Printer, Books & Games
Main Floor TV: The TV on the main floor is a smart TV and it is logged into the owner’s Netflix and Amazon Prime accounts (please DO NOT log out of either of these). Feel free to use your own login for any other services/apps, just remember to log yourself out before you leave!
Downstairs TV: The TV downstairs is equipped with a Roku. The Roku remote can power the TV and control the volume, but the TV remote is also available. When turning the TV on it should already be set to the correct source input for the Roku.
*Please note: It has been reported that sometimes when turning on the TV the screen is blank but you can hear sound when using the Roku remote. If this happens, unplug the power from the Roku (behind the TV), wait about 10 seconds, then plug the Roku back in. This seems to correct the issue.
This Roku is set to Guest Mode. Guest Mode requires you to choose a ‘Check-Out’ date the first time you use it. You can then download and log into any services/apps with your own login, and remain logged in for the duration of your stay. Roku will automatically log you out on the check-out date you selected.
There is a printer located in the closet of the main-floor bedroom that you are welcome to use (within reason, copy paper not included). Airprint to Canon TS5 series.
There are various books and board games located downstairs, and there are card games located in the buffet by the kitchen table. Feel free to enjoy these! Just please put them back when you’re done.
Misc. & Quirky Things About the House
Complimentary Starter Kit: This property is equipped with a complimentary ‘starter kit’ to help you kickstart your stay! Included in the kit are toilet paper, paper towels, laundry pods, K-cup coffee pods (located in the far left drawer under the coffee pots), and an assortment of sugar packets and powdered coffee creamer. This property also comes equipped with some hand and dish soap, individually wrapped bars of soap, shampoo/conditioner, and hand and body towels. If you find you need more than what is provided, you will be responsible for supplying it.
Towels for Messes: If you need to clean up messes to help us preserve our good towels we have a basket of towels in the kitchen pantry. Please use these to clean up spills, etc. Beach towels are also available in the laundry room by the washing machine that you are welcome to use after playing in the creek. Please help us preserve our white bath towels by keeping them for bathing only.
Downstairs Kitchenette: There is a Kitchenette located downstairs in the utility room. The Kitchenette is equipped with a sink, mini fridge, microwave, Keurig, as well as dish towels, dish soap, scrubbing sponge, dishes, cups/mugs, and utensils. You are welcome to use these things, but please do not remove any of these items from the Kitchenette.
Food: You are welcome to any food found in the fridge/freezer, pantry, spices/seasonings in cabinets, etc. Be sure to examine expiration dates, and use your best judgment.
Lights and Outlets: There are several light switches with covers over them. Please DO NOT adjust these switches. Leave them in the positions they’re currently in. Many switches are labeled throughout the home (be sure to look close). Some are not labeled but easy to figure out what they control. There are a few outlets on the screened porch that do not currently work.
HVAC: The main and 2nd floor of Laurel Lie is equipped with a brand new HVAC system (summer 2022)! Thermostats are located in both hallways. Do NOT set one thermostat to AC and the other to Heat (or vice versa). The bottom floor has a floor radiator for heat and a window unit in the bedroom for AC. If you leave the door open from the bedroom this unit will sufficiently cool the living area as well. Feel free to open windows and porch doors to enjoy the fresh mountain air. There is also an attic fan upstairs you can run (just be sure to open windows and doors to allow for air flow). If you leave doors and windows open please turn off the HVAC or adjust the temperatures accordingly so that the HVAC does not run while windows are open. And be sure to shut windows/doors when no longer desired open, or not at the property.
Toilets: Please don’t put anything but toilet paper in the toilets. Put feminine products in the trash cans. The toilet on the main floor has a cantankerous handle. It will flush, but you must hold the handle down and wait. Upstairs the toilets do better if you hold the handles downs as wel while flushingl. And try not to use too much toilet paper as it will clog.
Screened-in porch: The screen porch has some leaks when the gutters get full. If you observe leaks, move any furniture that might be getting leaked on and let us know. There are also some screens we are in the process of replacing. You can bring the cushions in if it rains to keep them from getting wet.
Upstairs Deck Furniture: Speaking of leaks and furniture, you should find in one of the upstairs bedrooms an outdoor rug and cushions for the 2 rocking chairs on the upstairs deck. If you plan to sit on this deck feel free to set out the rug and cushions. If you know it’s going to rain we ask if you would please bring the cushions back inside to help preserve them.
String Lights: There are string lights on the screen porch and the downstairs patio. You are welcome to turn these on. Just be sure to turn them off when you’re done. They plug in with extension cords or outlets.
Dishwasher: The dishwasher power is connected to a light switch. The switch has a cover over it and should be in the on position. However, if the dishwasher does not seem to be working / have power to it, check this switch first. We are hoping to upgrade the dishwasher this next year. It works best if you prewash the dishes and use it more to sanitize than remove food.
Coffee: There are two coffee pots for your use. A Keurig and a Drip Coffee pot. In the drawer under the coffee pots, you will find some Kcups, stevia, sugar (or in the pantry or container near the coffee pots), coffee filters, etc
Stove: The stove is older. Sometimes the eyes need to be adjusted. Let us know if this happens, so we can get Rickey to come check it.
Things To Do
Creek and Trails
Walk right out the back of the house and down the trail! You could hike all the way to Mt. Mitchel if you wanted to, but for an easier hike, go left when you hit the main trail/road and right when you get to the bottom of that. There’s a creek down there and lots of trails right from the house!
Hike
Hike the Lookout Mountain Trail. You can go up in about 45 minutes and down in 30. There are lots of other trails and info and trail maps are available in the lobby of the Assembly Inn in Montreat.
The Town of Montreat
Turn right onto Assembly Drive from Shenandoah Terrace. There is a fun import store called Ten Thousand Villages, a book store gift shop, and the Huckleberry Cafe with Starbucks coffee and wonderful ice cream. You are free to go and enjoy the lobby at the Assembly Inn, or take in the buildings in Montreat which were built and designed by the same Architect as the Grove Park Inn. Plus, take a stroll around beautiful Lake Susan.
Black Mountain
Enjoy lots of window shopping and cute shops!
Favorite Saturday Morning thing to do is The Farmer’s Market located behind the First Baptist Church. It’s little and so sweet. Buy wildflowers and coffee and listen to the music. You can “do” it in less than an hour.
Restaurants
In addition to the standard chain options, there are lots of wonderful local restaurants to worth visiting! Be aware, many places close early, so avoid going out too late (after 8!). Some favorites are:
Que Sera Sera (dinner or lunch)
Veranda (lunch)
My Father’s Pizza - best if you can go early, before dark and sit outside and look at the mountains. The Skinny Pig is our favorite pizza. Can also do take-out.
Blue Ridge Biscuits - go early, they always have a line! Go Hungry!
Berliner Kindl - Authentic German
Trailhead - Casual vibe, Great Onion Rings, Steak, and tacos.
Breweries
Black Mountain Brewery - There’s a food truck out back and sometimes live music!
Lookout Mountain Brewing Company
Coffee
Dripolator - Excellent coffee.
Cup Of Jomo - Equally excellent coffee
Kid-Friendly Ideas
Montreat
There is a playground very close to the house. Turn right on Assembly Drive towards Montreat and it’s located on the right side!
Black Mountain
Order to-go food from Louise’s and go directly across the street and eat in the courtyard of WNC Collective (110 Black Mountain Ave). You can eat at Louise’s, but WNC has a gravel courtyard (open to anyone) with some kids activities. This is where Cup of Jomo is located, as well as a bar with craft beer.
Get cupcakes from Hey, hey Cupcake or get ice cream from Kilwins.
Cherry Street Kids - fabulous toy store.
Take a Hike has kids clothes and shoes if your kids get their shoes wet on the first day in the river!
Hardware Store also has lots of fun kid stuff.
Additional Shopping
Tyson’s - miles and miles of furniture.
Seven Sisters - fabulous hand crafted things- beautiful place.
Merry Wine Seller - They have tastings. You might call and go on Thursday or Friday late afternoon.
Asheville
Asheville is only 20 minutes away! You’ll find lots of restaurants and shopping in Asheville, as well as concerts and other night life opportunities. Some of our favorite things in Asheville are…
Favorite Breakfast spot - Tupelo Honey - this is the original one.
Next Favorite Restrauant - Black Bird
Biltmore Village and Estate - Hang out around Biltmore Village and/or in the Biltmore Estate - I think if you have reservations to go to tea at the Inn, or to go to the Winery, you won’t need to buy a ticket and can get through the gate.
Grove Park Inn - we like to eat lunch or have drinks on the terrace or by their fire - depending on weather.
Enjoy! Call us if you have any questions or problems!
